FAQ's
What will my first appointment be like?
Entering through the front door you'll find yourself in our waiting room. There is a variety of magazines to look at. Feel free to help yourself to a cup of hot tea if you'd like. Please make yourself comfortable, and I will come out to greet you at our scheduled time.
The initial session is a good opportunity to discuss what is bringing you to therapy, what changes you are hoping to achieve through the therapy process, and any concerns or questions you may have. Together we will define the work we're going to do in order to provide you with the most effective therapeutic experience possible.
I look forward to working with you!
When will I feel better and how long will I be in therapy?
In my clinical practice I have had the opportunity to work with many different people from all walks of life with a wide variety of problems. I have seen people respond to therapy quickly, and others who required long, persistent effort to affect the changes they desire.
Some problems lend themselves to focused therapy that reduces symptoms quickly. Sometimes intensive, long term therapy is necessary. During the therapeutic process, you may feel worse before feeling better. This is generally a normal course of events since therapy stirs up unresolved or unnoticed issues. Personal growth and change may be easy and swift at times, but may also be slow.
You and I will be able to talk about length of treatment once we've met and I have an idea of what your goals for therapy are. I encourage you to address any concerns you have about your progress in therapy with me at any time.
